The supply took place in order to upgrade the operation of the W.W.T.P. through the new automation, communication and measuring equipment, as well as the implementation of an integrated management system, with a SCADA system.

In order to manage the engines in a better way, save energy and protect motors against damage, inverters have been installed on engines such as pumps, blowers, air compressors etc.

All the W.W.T.P. units are being controlled by the Local Control Stations which are located in specific places of the plant and are consisted of:

  • Programmable Logic Controllers PLCs and auxiliary equipment (additional analog and digital input and output cards)
  • DC-UPS with appropriate battery modules for uninterrupted power supply
  • Communication equipment with wireless communication capabilities at 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequencies
  • necessary equipment for relays, fuses, automatic switches, etc.

 

Another important element of W.W.T.P. process upgrading, is the installation of new continuous measurement equipment of high quality, which are critical and within the specifications for the operation of the project. In particular, instruments were installed to measure sizes such as:

  • Dissolved Oxygen and MLSS Concentration in Biological Process Tanks
  • Concentration of suspended solids in the recirculation Sludge Pumping Station
  • Sludge level indicator in Settlement Tanks

 

Also, in order to be able to continuously and accurately record the supply of water and sewage at various points of the W.W.T.P., two portable ultrasonic clamp-on meters were installed, including Electronic TransmitterController, Measurement Sensors with Support and Interface Accessories and complete Control Kit.

Also, level and flow meters, using ultrasonic technology, were installed to continuously record the level or volume in wells / water / wastewater tanks consisting of a Controller and ultrasound sensor, high precision and reliability.

Data Monitoring, Control and Data Collection System (SCADA) which was installed, consists of peak technologies in its structure and operation. In addition, it is completely open and extendable to modifications and future installation requirements.

To ensure the functionality of the overall system, even in difficult conditions such as in a WWTP, a computer with appropriate industry specifications has been placed in the Installation Control Center.

On this computer, SCADA WINCC software was installed, which is equipped with an LCD TFT high definition display for long term operation. This computer is certified for use in an office or in an industrial environment, is suitable for rack 19’’ mounting and includes, among other things, monitoring and diagnostic functions to run the program, the operation temperature and fan speed.

In order for the ability to interfere locally at the control stations in a W.W.T.P., besides the access through the central control station, a laptop was supplied, with the latest technology.

In detail, the equipment supplied is shown below:

  • Four (4) PLC-DCUPS automation panels for W.W.T.P. units
  • Five (5) wireless communication equipment
  • Two (2) portable flow meters
  • Three (3) Level or Flow Meters
  • One (1) quality measurement instrument
  • Sixteen (16) speed control devices (INVERTER)
  • One (1) SCADA software
  • SCADA computer
  • Laptop computer
